Congratulations Cyril and Annetta on the Lifetime Achievement Award. We thank you for your support and commitment to the Whitecourt Trailblazers Club. A well deserved award!
Cyril Lanctot was awarded the Louise Sherrin Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is presented to an outstanding individual who must have distinguished himself/herself over a period of time as a leader or pioneer for snowmobiling in Alberta at a club, provincial or national level. This person will have contributed by increasing the image, exposure, development or growth of the recreational lifestyle of snowmobiling with the Province of Alberta.
Cyril worked with the Alberta Forest Services back in the 70’s in Whitecourt with land use, recreation, parks and trails. At that time, he was an A.F.S. trail boss which continued when the Trailblazers inherited the A.F.S. trail system. In 1983, he became the Trailblazers trail boss/director on the Executive and later became the Facilities Co-Ordinator. Within the club, he has coordinated and prepared cabins for all club functions such as W.O.W. (Women of Whitecourt) Rides, media rides and many other club functions. He assisted with all facility repairs and maintenance, wood supply, etc. He has been responsible for marking and setup of rally routes and directional signage. He has worked at casinos for the Trailblazers. He assisted with parade and float events, as well as the Easter Seals fund raising events. He has traveled with Trailblazers members to many provincial jamborees. He was one of the A.S.A. and Trailblazers members who traveled from Red Deer to Silver Star at Vernon to raise awareness and collect a provincial traveling trophy - 1984-85 season. The Lanctot family was awarded Family of the Year numerous times for their efforts on the trails and for the club activities. He has received many awards for safety and contributions to the club.
Cyril is a long time member of the Whitecourt Trailblazers who has been an integral part of the Club for over 35 years. He is an incredible volunteer from selling tickets to trail development to advising us on provincial regulations. He is always willing to be a part of the volunteer group working, fundraising or planning events or various activities for the club. He is a dedicated member who is very reliable and helpful. Through his past employment with the Alberta Forest Services, he has been an important advisor/leader for us with his expertise for trail development and partnerships with various industries, that have allowed the Trailblazers to gain knowledge for development of our greatest asset "our trails". He has been part of the steering committee on various projects throughout the years.
He has been nominated because of his long time commitment to our club and community. Currently Cyril is a member of the Trailblazers, volunteers as treasurer with the Heritage Society in Whitecourt, member of the Lion's Club (works on maintenance at Lion's Club Campground), volunteers at the Repeat Boutique, Christmas Hamper, Senior's Circle and the United Church. He is always willing to help out family and friends and anyone who asks for assistance.
Cyril currently attends all the Trailblazers general meetings, is a valuable volunteer who assists us to set up and clean up the Media Ride luncheon, sells raffle tickets, mans the booth at the Alberta Snowmobile & Powersports Show and was Manager at our latest Casino. He is still riding his sled and has been known to ask his son Rod – “When are we going to ride in the mountains again?” His last ride in the mountains was at Greystoke National Park, six years ago. He enjoys golfing with family and friends, boating, fishing, going to tractor pulls and watching grandchildren’s events. Cyril is always smiling and is a wonderful ambassador for the sport of snowmobiling. We can all only hope we are still riding our sled in our 80’s. Thank you Cyril and Annetta for your tremendous support for the Whitecourt Trailblazers.
