Successful ASA Sled Show & Awards Banquet – Jeff Brooks

Successful Weekend Update
Written by Jeff Brooks

This past weekend saw a large contingent of the Whitecourt Trailblazers attend the annual ASA Powersports Show in Edmonton. We hosted an informational booth highlighting our club, our trail system, and club infrastructure. This show takes a lot of time to organize and set up. Thanks to all of the club members who volunteered their time to make this happen. A huge thanks to Candyce for getting this all together and working the booth for the two days. Set-up, takedown, and being away from home are a big commitment, and the club thanks Candyce for her huge efforts. Job well done!

This weekend was also the ASA Semi-Annual General Meeting and Awards of Excellence Banquet for the Alberta Snowmobile Association. This awards night is the highlight of the weekend, with many deserving and dedicated snowmobilers being recognized with various awards in front of a group of their peers. The Whitecourt Trailblazers were elated to have had two of our members recognized by the Alberta Snowmobile Association.

 RICHARD PICARD
was recognized with the
OUTSTANDING SNOWMOBILER OF THE YEAR AWARD!

Richard is so deserving for his service to the club, which includes everything from trail cleaning to operating the club’s groomer. Richard is always the first call, and if he is around, he is in. Always willing to help a stranded snowmobiler or work on a project, and always with a smile on his face.
So proud and happy that Richard is a part of our club.
CINDY BROOKS
was recognized with the
LOUISE SHERREN LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Cindy has been a snowmobiler from the time she was a small girl until now, a proud grandmother. Not only a snowmobiler, but also an extremely dedicated volunteer who has served the WTB in various capacities, as well as on numerous other boards within our community. Cindy has served the club as a member, as our executive assistant, and as a board member in various capacities, currently holding the position of Membership Director. She is always willing to help a member of our club and other clubs in the province as well.

She has been a mentor to other provincial clubs when they consider hosting a large event, and they draw on her knowledge gained during her leadership role in hosting our Snowmobile Invasions. Cindy is the youngest recipient ever to receive this award, an acknowledgement of the work she’s done and her dedication to the sport of snowmobiling. Very proud of Cindy and fortunate to have her in our club and in our community.

Thank you to the members who nominated these two deserving people. The awards night was a lot of fun and a great opportunity to network with other clubs and the membership at large. Please join me in recognizing these two wonderful people for their accomplishments.
