Executive Message – President Jeff Brooks

A Message From Our Executive

The Whitecourt Trailblazers season officially kicked off with our AGM held on September 22, 2024 with the election of a new board of directors. We have a great group of people on the board, a strong mix of returning members as well as some newly elected folks that bring a lot of enthusiasm and new ideas to our team.
The entire executive is supported by our administrator, Candyce Jones, that does all the heavy lifting behind the scenes and keeps our group on track.

The WTB will again be attending the Sled/ATV Show in Edmonton on October 18th and 19th. If you’re planning on attending the show, make sure to stop by the WTB booth and chat with the club member that has taken their personal time to come out and represent the club and our community. The Alberta Snowmobile Association awards are also being held on the 19th and several local members are being recognized for their contribution to our club and the sledding community. Don Price is receiving a lifetime achievement award for his many dedicated years in the sport. Whitecourt Service Center, Darrell and Janet Grenier are receiving recognition as Support Business of the Year. As well Riderz is receiving an award for Dealership of the Year. These folks are very deserving recipients of this provincial recognition and make sure to congratulate them.

One of the most difficult things for a snowmobile club to manage is the thing they have the least control of, the weather. In seasons of low snow, it is pretty difficult to maintain enthusiasm for sledding and get volunteers out to meetings or work bees. Maintaining the trail systems and the associated infrastructure is a huge job that unfortunately, falls on a small group of people. Despite the low snow levels over the past several seasons, the club has upgraded a number of the cabins, lookouts and trails and we are working hard this fall to prepare for the upcoming season. The infrastructure we have on our trail system is the best in the province, we take pride as a community in these facilities and thank the many users for treating these buildings with respect.

There are a number of ways people can support the club; purchase your membership, come to the monthly meetings and/or volunteer your time. By doing this, we will continue to have a strong presence in our community.

Looking forward to seeing folks out on the trails this season.

Jeff Brooks, President WTB
